First Photos of Ross’s Turaco in Sub-Region
Some amazing news today came out of northern Botswana, from the Linyanti Concession. Tshepo Phala, who is a manager at the King’s Pool camp managed to photograph a Ross’s Turaco, a first ever confirmed record (and photograph) for the subregion. Ross’s Turaco have been reported from within Southern Africa a few times, but the records have either been likely escapees, or no solid evidence for the record was provided. While one can never rule out an escapee, this seems to be the real deal and is a location which would fit perfectly, with Ross’s Turaco occurring naturally in the bordering Zambia.
This Facebook post made from the Bush24 page goes into more details regarding both the sighting by Tshepo, as well as previous claims of Ross’s sightings from within the area. Needless to say, there are already twitchers making plans and organizing to head far up north in the hopes of adding this amazing looking bird to their Southern African lists.
